I don’t know about you, but I personally check the internet for available domain names every time something funky gets in my head. Recently, however, the “.me” domain name has become very popular. I remember when I first acquired the domain name I am using for this blog “kman.ME”, I searched for a lot of others .ME domains to see if they were available. Many, to my surprise were. And as usual, I told myself that I would soon recharge my pre-paid credit card (I use prepaid because I need to set myself limits sometimes) and buy me a few.
Today, I decided to check up on those .ME domain names I had in mind. Many were gone. I was not so much shocked as I was disappointed. After all, the .ME domain names would have been nice domain names for companies located in more than one region of the Middle East.
Most people look at the domain name and think the me can only stand for “me, as in myself”… However, .TV is a big example of a domain name intended for one thing and yet adopted for an entirely different thing.
Anyway… I won’t soak myself with tears over the .ME domain names that have been snatched already. I do however urge anyone who still does not have a domain name to go and get one. You can check for the availability of a domain name using: http://www.register.com. By using register.com to search for a domain name, if you find one that you want or the one that you are looking for, you can simply buy register there on the spot.
Keep in mind there is no such thing as domain purchase. You simply register the domain name for a set number of years. You will never own a domain name. You can re-register it for as long as you want… but it will never be fully yours. How much does that suck now? Tsk tsk tsk…
