Red bull seems to be doing well… They sponsor everything, don’t they? So well that time itself seems to be drinking it; for time seems to have acquired ‘juweineh’ (wings) and is now officially – and I am the official doing the officializing* here – flying.
So its been said over and over. Every colleague I bump into, except on early Sunday cigarette breaks, exclaims at the fact that time is just flying. Friends and family, strangers in the street, cab drivers I’ve talked to – everyone. So why is it flying?
I once read an article online about this, a few years back. What the article said was that basically as you grow older, time that you live as a fraction of the total amount of time that you have lived grows smaller, and that explains why we feel that time goes by faster.
Other might say that our lives are getting busier. Einstein would say time is relative. Others would say time is a sword if you don’t cut it… no wait, that has nothing to do with this.
I liked the explanation of time as a fraction of our total time spent on earth decreasing as we grow; and having not heard anything more appropriate I chose to adopt that as my own way of accepting this rapidness of time.
But we must also realize that the fast paced nature of our modern life styles to a great effect emphasizes this speediness of time. When you take the work out of delivering a letter and techify* it down to quick short message that is delivered in an instant, an essence is lost… the essence of effort and value. Quick things translate into cheapness – subconsciously at least. “He washed my car in 1 minute = he didn’t wash my car very well”
And as things in daily life become do-able at faster rates thanks to technology, and as new technology becomes a part of many aspects of our daily lives, although we may live more efficiently, the essence that was lost when SMS replaced letters, is lost in other ways. Many others…
Time has become cheap due to the disappearance of essence that was core to things that required hard effort and work. And cheap things… we all know from trips to the balad for ‘lu2tat’ (bargains), never last long.

i don’t think time flies nor is life too short.
people who ‘pretend’ they over work and need more time are compensating for other failures in their life on a more social or human level.
also why on earth would anyone want more time, if you do things right the first time, it wouldn’t take that long!!
life is not short get over it, live it, use and abuse it..u never know if you’re coming back, leave a foot/finger print, have something to show of your existence and don’t be the passenger on the journey of your life !!!
kthx <— also originally mine..
I agree with Bana. Life is not short and if you put your mind to it, you can MAKE your own time. I also agree with Einstein, time being relative. The fraction part is a waste of time to even think about, and the main reason you see my grandmother at 78 (All iytawel 3omrek teta) calling me asking if I want anything from Lebanon cause she’s going on a trip, and between other senior citizens sitting on their asses all day.
As cliche’ as it sounds, live life to the fullest and don’t fractionate it from when you’re going to die. I might die tomorrow so I do something good today.
Yes, something good, not go and do everything I’ve ever dreamt of doing, that’s not really how life works. Live your life to make Earth a better place, so that one day when you leave your mark, as Bana said, which I will translate into your own children (since not everyone has the ability to create something or be a major person in society and get a statue built for you),…umm, where was I?
Ohh yeah, make the world a better place for your print on life, your children.
Time doesn’t fly, time just passes, and if you don’t keep that in mind it’ll pass you by without you even knowing.
Thanks for the comments guys.
Time is never cheap, even if many chores now take less time! The way I see it, time has only one relation to hard effort exerted, which is; to do things with less time means you use some sort of a technology that you paid for. And you have earned this money through exerting hard effort in your work! Thus you are still exerting hard effort
!
Time is relative, but not to the time we have been alive. It is relative to how much chores we have to get done with and to how much are we enjoying the moment! When we were kids in school, our priorities would be anything but not to study; hence when the exams are close we’d be always short on time.
The most essential rule in time management is to set priorities, and here is the trick! What are your priorities?!
Very argumentative post :/! I still need to say many things, but since it’s my first time here I will try not to freak you out
A mnitue saved is a minute earned, and this saved hours!
Thanks for your input Zeina…
